Daniel Agger: Key player at World Cup 2010
Despite his relative youth, Agger acquired a reputation for playing with great authority and class under Brondby captain Per Nielsen.
The Liverpool man is well-known to English forwards on his national duty; he terrorised them during a 4-1 friendly win for Denmark in 2005.
While at Brondy Agger was long linked to a transfer to a bigger club, and in the January 2006 transfer window, his £5.8 million transfer deal to Anfield made him the most expensive footballer sold abroad by a Danish club.
While Agger is in-and-out of the Liverpool team under Rafael Benítez he cuts an intimidating figure, exemplified by his "memento mori" tattoo.

1986 FIFA World Cup
Denmark made their first World Cup appearance in the 1986 FIFA World Cup, and with the attacking duo of Michael Laudrup and Preben Elkjær the team surprised the world, sweeping the group, including a 6–1 thrashing of Uruguay. In the second round Denmark once again faced Spain, and once more Denmark lost out.
The team received a trashing of their own, losing 5–1, including four goals by Emilio Butragueño. The first Spanish goal was caused by a miss-timed backpass by Jesper Olsen to Butragueño, an unfortunate action subsequently coined as "a real Jesper Olsen" (en rigtig Jesper Olsen). The phrase would live on for 13 years when an identical backpass was carried out by Jesper Grønkjær to Filippo Inzaghi in Grønkjær's 1999 debut game.

Union is a success
Around 95% of Danish professional football players are members of the Football Players' Union. Despite the strong element of competition and obvious individual interests connected to this profession, the union is a success. This is the conclusion of a study, published in June 2001, of industrial relations in professional football. According to this analysis, the success of the union is due to its support for both the individual and collective needs of the players. Women professional players have recently been admitted to the union.
According to a new study of industrial relations in Danish professional football, the Danish Football Players' Union (Spillerforeningen) is a successful trade union with a very high membership rate, good contacts with private sponsors and considerable skill in navigating between the individual and collective needs of the players. The study, which is the first of its kind in a sector not often examined in an industrial relations context, was published in June 2001 by Kristian Nielsen of the Department of Sociology at the University of Copenhagen.
